Under many circumstances, an order setting aside a conviction is not sufficient to remove the harsh consequences of a prior conviction that an individual may encounter. Frequently, a defendant who enters a plea thinking their “deal” was in their best interests, may discover at a later date that there are unanticipated consequences. Often, these consequences can result in deportation, denial or re-entry into the United States, lack of amnesty, and/or lack of citizenship. Many times, and individual is no longer eligible to maintain employment in their chosen career. An order setting aside a conviction may not cure many of these hardships.
